SmithsPromoPhoto_TQID_1985Launchpad Media is proud to announce that management client and original member of The Smiths – Mike Joyce – has been nominated for induction into the 2015 class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Additional nominees include Green Day, Nine Inch Nails, N.W.A, Lou Reed and Sting.

NME named The Smiths as the most influential music act of the last 50 years, and their album, “The Queen is Dead” topped the best 500 albums of all time, beating The Beatles, Elvis, Bob Marley, the Rolling Stones, U2, and more.

Mike joined The Smiths in 1982 and stayed with them until their demise in 1987. In late ’88 and ’89 Mike also played on two hit singles with Morrissey as a solo artist, “The Last of the Famous International Playboys” and “Interesting Drug.”

In 1990-1991 Mike toured the world and recorded with his punk heroes Buzzcocks. Mike has also drummed with The Hoax, Victim, Julian Cope, Sinead O’Connor, Public Image Ltd, Suede, Pete Wylie, Vinny Peculiar, and No Ceremony, to name a few.

In July 2007, Mike along with former band mate Andy Rourke released ‘Inside The Smiths’, a DVD which chronicled their experiences of being in the band. Both speak highly of Morrissey and Marr in the film and convey how special they believed The Smiths were and still are to them.

Mike has been working in FM/ Internet radio for the past 8 years, in addition to his worldwide DJ career. His show, ‘Alternative Therapy’ began broadcasting in 2006 on 96.2 The Revolution (alongside Mani, Clint Boon and Martin Coogan). In 2008 Mike took his show to Manchester Radio Online, which at the time boasted the largest listening figures for an independent online radio station. The success of Mike’s show caught the attention of Jon Tattersall, from The Official Charts Company who asked him to present The Coalition Independent Chart Show.

The strength of Mike Joyce’s legendary ex-Smith’s status attracted bands like The Drums, The XX, Noah and The Whale, Girls, The Wedding Present and Metronomy, who have been in the studio for interviews and exclusive sessions.

After discussions, Mike decided to take the chart show to East Village Radio, New York’s hippest station. Mike also guests on BBC 6 Music as their first stand in for Marc Riley, Radcliffe & Maconie and Guy Garvey.

Among other projects, Mike is working with Launchpad on the development of a documentary on The Smiths, a new syndicated live video and audio show, tours, and more.
